چکیده

Semantic Complex Event Processing (CEP) is a promising approach for analysing streams of social media data in crisis situations. Traditional CEP approaches lack the capability to semantically interpret and analyse data, which Semantic CEP attempts to address, but current approaches have a number of limitations. In this paper we survey four semantic stream processing engines, and discuss them with the specific requirements of CEP for social media monitoring in mind. Current approaches assume well-structured data, known streams and vocabularies, and mainly static event patterns and ontologies, neither of which are realistic assumptions in our scenario. Additionally, the languages commonly used for event pattern detection, i.e., SPARQL extensions, lack several important features that would facilitate more advanced statistical and textual analyses, as well as adequate support for temporal and spatial reasoning. Being able to utilize external tools for processing specific tasks would also be of great value in processing social data streams.

Using Complex Event Processing for Modeling Semantic Requests in Real-Time Social Media Monitoring

Social media analytics has been attracting considerable attention in both research and industry due to the increasing popularity of social media usage. As a subset, social media monitoring describes the process of continuous monitoring of a subject matter in social media. From our point of view, the key requirements for such systems are i) high throughput and real time processing of incoming da...

Making sense of social media streams through semantics: A survey

Using semantic technologies for mining and intelligent information access to social media is a challenging, emerging research area. Traditional search methods are no longer able to address the more complex information seeking behaviour in media streams, which has evolved towards sense making, learning, investigation, and social search. Unlike carefully authored news text and longer web context,...

Native-like Event-related Potentials in Processing the Second Language Syntax: Late Bilinguals

Background: The P600 brain wave reflects syntactic processes in response to different first language (L1) syntactic violations, syntactic repair, structural reanalysis, and specific semantic components. Unlike semantic processing, aspects of the second language (L2) syntactic processing differ from the L1, particularly at lower levels of proficiency. At higher L2 proficiency, syntactic violatio...

Stream reasoning and complex event processing in ETALIS

Addressing the dynamics and notification in the Semantic Web realm has recently become an important area of research. Run time data is generated by multiple social networks, sensor networks, various on-line services, and so on. The challenge is how to get advantage of a huge amount of real time data, i.e., how to integrate heterogeneous data streams, combine data streams with the background kno...

Traffic Management Using RTEC in OWL 2 RL

Introduction. In a number of domains, including traffic management, event processing and situational reporting are particularly demanding. This is due to the volumes and realiability of streamed spatio-temporal data involved, ranging from sensor readings, news-wire reports, police reports, to social media, as well as the complexity of the reasoning required. Human, rather than artificial, intel...
